The Delaware Charity Challenge is a unique fundraising and athletic competition designed to give organizations, families, and individuals a fun way to raise money and awareness for their favorite causes. Teams that enter may designate any charity they want as a beneficiary of funds they raise as a team. Part of the proceeds from the race registrations and the race sponsorships will go into a prize pool that will be distributed among the charities that raise the most money and to the charities of the teams that win the individual race events on the day of the Delaware Charity Challenge.

Information about the 2015 1st Annual Delaware Charity Challenge 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay

1st Annual Delaware Charity Challenge Spring 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay

The Delaware Charity Challenge is a centralized fundraising and athletic competition designed to give participating charities and teams the ability to access all the benefits of participating in a fundraising event, such as a 5K, without most of the overhead costs and logistical nightmares commonly associated with putting such events together internally.

The 1st Annual Delaware Charity Challenge 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay was a great success. In the first year, more than $32,000 ($32,483) was raised for 26 different charities as part of the Race to Raise fundraising challenge. Over 35 teams (representing 30 different charities) competed in the Race to First 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay, which was held May 2, 2015 at Lums Pond State Park in Bear, Delaware.

Race to Raise

In the 2015 Race to Raise, Meals on Wheels Delaware won first place and received the $300 first place prize from the prize pool. At the close of the 2015 Race to Raise competition, they raised $5,995 between its official team and a team from Monroe Energy, which designated Meals on Wheels Delaware as its nonprofit beneficiary.  Team Veritext Legal Solutions finished second, raising $5,550 for its nonprofit beneficiary, Ministry of Caring, earning that charity an additional $200 second place prize from the prize pool. Team End Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy raised the third highest amount of $4,716 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), earning the third place $100 prize for MDA. Team Cure Sanfilippo, raising money for Team Sanfilippo Foundation, raised $4,550. Team Veritext, Team End Duchenne, and Team Cure Sanfilippo were the top three fundraising teams of the 26 teams competing in the Race to Raise.

In the official nonprofit team category, Team Meals On Wheels Delaware and Team Next Gen North (raising money for the Next Generation of the Delaware Community Foundation (North) Fund) finished first and second. These teams won the two Wilmington Blue Rocks advertising packages for having raised the most money of any official nonprofit team.

When the Fundraising Challenge was completed (May 31, 2015), teams collectively had raised $32,484 for the selected nonprofit organizations, including the prize pool awards.
