Competitors Raise Over $20,000 For Area Nonprofits In 2018 Spring Delaware Charity Challenge

We are happy to announce that participants in the Fourth Annual Delaware Charity Challenge spring fundraising contest and athletic games raised more than $20,500 in donations to different nonprofits they supported. The spring event took place on May 5, 2018 at Lums Pond State Park in Bear, Delaware. More than 100 competitors ran, walked, or competed in the 5K and Adventure Challenge Relay to raise money and awareness for a dozen different charities in this year's competition.
In the Spring 2018 Race to Raise fundraising competition (January 30 to May 5), Team Veritext Legal Solutions took home top honors again this year, raising a record $13,800 for the Ministry of Caring, including a $300 bonus prize for raising the most money. Team Delaware Shakespeare finished second, raising $2,190, including $400 in prize money related to the fundraising contest and the 5K competition. Team Hot Flashes for the Everett raised $1,566 and finished third, including a $100 prize for raising the third most amount of money in the Race to Raise.
The official nonprofit team fundraising competition this year was won by Team Delaware Shakespeare. Team DCRAC finished second in the nonprofit fundraising competition division with $1,213 raised. Both Delaware Shakespeare and DCRAC won advertising packages from the Wilmington Blue Rocks for having raised the most money of any official nonprofit team.
2018 5K & Adventure Challenge Relay Results
- Team Faithful Friends won the Co-Ed Team 5K race and an additional $100 for Faithful Friends Animal Society.
- The Delaware Shakespeare runners won both the Men's and Women's Team 5K race and an additional $200 for Delaware Shakespeare.
- BNY Mellon Team 2 won the large teams division of the Adventure Challenge Relay and the accompanying $100 prize for Friends of Wilmington Parks. Team Friends of Wilmington Parks also had a team compete in and win the pairs division, which also came with a $100 prize. Many others ran or walked in the fun run/walk or competed in the Adventure Challenge Relay.

In Summer 2018, there are two additional opportunities available where you can raise money for your favorite nonprofit through the Delaware Charity Challenge. For those in Kent and Sussex County, the Race Around Killens Pond 5K takes place on Sunday, June 24 at Killens Pond State Park in Felton. Fans of trail biking and running can race individually or with relay teams in the First State Duathlon, an 11 mile trail duathlon at Bellevue State Park on Saturday, July 21. Both of those events have separate Delaware Charity Challenge fundraising competitions.
The Winter Race to Raise will kick off on October 1, 2018. This fundraising competition leads up to the Delaware Charity Challenge Winter Games, which include the 4th Annual Run, Row, Bike Indoor Triathlon on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the Chase Center in Wilmington.
The 5th Annual Spring 5K & Adventure Challenge Relay returns to Lums Pond on Saturday, May 4, 2019. Teams and individuals will be able to set up their 2019 Spring Race to Raise fundraising pages in January 2019.
